Transition to MS - FAQs
Dear Soon-to-Be Yellow Springs Middle School Families,
I would like to take a moment to welcome you and your child to Yellow Springs Middle School for the upcoming school year. I am currently finishing my 20th year working in Yellow Springs, the first two of which were teaching 5th and 6th grade at Mills Lawn. This facilities project and the related transition of our 5th and 6th-grade students and staff to the East Enon Road campus is certainly a highlight for me personally. Our staff has worked the past few months to prepare for this move, intentionally taking into account the developmental characteristics of 5th and 6th-grade students. As you will see in the FAQs below, our approach to this transition is rooted in the middle school philosophy. We recognize that 5th and 6th-grade students are different from 7th and 8th-grade students, and we will build in developmentally appropriate structures and focus on student-centered relationships to support holistic student growth for each student.
We know that moving to a new building and beginning middle school often brings both excitement and questions for families. To help with that transition, I have included a list of frequently asked questions below that address some of the common topics families want to know more about as the school year approaches.
Thanks,
Jack Hatert, Principal
I am currently finishing my 18th year in education, and my 7th year in administration. I have five years of experience teaching 5th grade and six years of experience teaching 7th and 8th grade. I have twin daughters, Maddie and Molly, who are currently in 5th grade at Mills Lawn. I am excited about our facilities transformation and the addition of our 5th-6th grade students to our campus community.
Thanks,
Joy Feola, Assistant Principal
